Requirements and Policies
Enrollment & Fees
Payment Requirements
- Full course fees must be paid before a student may attend class.
- A payment receipt must be presented to the instructor.
- Students who have not paid in full will not be permitted to enroll.
- Families experiencing hardship must contact the instructor before the course begins.
Refund Policy
- A $50 non‑refundable fee will be retained if a student begins the course and withdraws after the second class.
- Partial refunds after the second day may be issued based on how much of the course has been completed.
- If a student withdraws and later enrolls again, a new permit must be purchased.
Attendance Requirements
- Attendance at the first class session is mandatory. Students who fail to attend will be dropped from the course.
- School‑Year Courses: Students may miss up to four (4) hours of class time. Missing more than four hours results in course failure due to state hour requirements.
- Summer Courses: Students must attend every class session.
- Absences due to illness, funeral, or similar emergencies require official documentation (doctor’s note, etc.).
- The Driver Education Committee will determine how, or if, missed hours may be made up.
Assessment & Passing Requirements
State law requires students to be evaluated in three separate areas:
- Knowledge (Classroom Instruction)
- Minimum passing score: 80%
- Skills (Behind‑the‑Wheel Training)
- Failing two or more drives results in failure of the program.
- Attitude
- Includes behavior, academic integrity, timely work, and conduct in class, vehicle, and school.
- Cheating or repeated behavioral issues may result in failure.
Important:
- Students must earn 80% or higher in each area individually.
- Grades are not averaged across areas.
- A student who fails any one area fails the entire course.
- Students must pass the classroom portion before being scheduled for behind‑the‑wheel driving.
Scheduled Drives
- Missed scheduled drives incur a $25 rescheduling fee per missed drive.
- Fees must be paid and a receipt provided before any make‑up drive occurs.
Accommodations & Special Needs
- Students requiring instructional adaptations must notify the instructor.
- Reasonable accommodations will be provided when possible.
- Accommodations that compromise public safety cannot be made.
School Eligibility
- Students must maintain:
- Passing grades in their regular school classes
- Acceptable attendance
- Appropriate behavior
- Violations of school or district policy may result in removal from the Driver Education program.
Student Permits
- Student permits are held by the Driver Education program until:
- The course is successfully completed, and
- All required fees are paid.
- If a student fails or withdraws from the program, the permit will be returned to the DMV for destruction.
- Students who enroll but do not pay fees will have their permit held until payment is made.
- Students who drop the program and wish to transfer to another program must:
- Pay all outstanding fees, and
- Have the permit returned to the DMV before it may be renewed.
Coursework, Testing & Class Expectations
- Students receive a class schedule outlining chapter coverage.
- Students are expected to:
- Pre‑read assigned chapters, and
- Complete chapter review work before class.
- Bookwork is due prior to the start of class.
- Each test may be retaken once, and the retake score replaces the original score.
- The Driver Education Core Program covers the basic rules of the road.
- All section tests must be passed with a minimum score of 80%.

While enrolled in Driver Education, students may not:
- Drive any motorized vehicle outside of Driver Education instruction on public roads.
